The Dispute Strategy You Should NEVER Use
There’s many ways to dispute an inaccurate, unverifiable, or obsolete item on your credit report: snail mail……fax…..and the seemingly easiest, most convenient way….online. However, did you know that disputing online actually makes the credit bureaus’ job easier (and in turn, your job harder)? Did you know that when you dispute online, the credit bureaus do not have to comply with a whopping 3 paragraphs in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)!?!?
In a nutshell, these 3 paragraphs allow the bureaus to ignore any paper trail for evidence of the disputes (they can’t forward related documentation or proof to the creditors either), they don’t have to give you written results, and they do not have to provide you with the MOV (Method of Verification) for the investigation (an important tool to make sure the CRA’s are actually investigating your dispute).
In a nutshell, disputing online takes away some of your rights allotted by the FCRA. The best and most effective way to do it is via snail mail. NEVER dispute online!
